Ocean Bound Plastic
Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP) is classified as mismanaged plastic waste that is located within 50km of the coastline. This is deemed to have a high likelihood of ending up in the ocean and Tidal Links are passionate about intercepting this type of plastic before it enters the ocean, causing further impact to marine life and beyond.

Ocean Bound Plastic Certified
Plastic that has already entered the ocean is difficult to recycle and still achieve the necessary quality requirements for our products. We still look to collect ocean plastic as part of non-profit initiatives, but this plastic does not make its way into our current product range. Our Ocean Bound Plastic fabrics and supply chain are certified by Zero Plastic Oceans.
How we calculate bottle equivalents
We can tell you how many equivalent one-litre plastic bottles were intercepted to make your order. Here's exactly how that number is generated.
The conversion basis is 23g of ocean-bound plastic per one-litre bottle equivalent. Every product carries a published figure derived from its certified OBP content by weight.
Bottle 'equivalent' clarification
This is a Tidal Links calculation, not a third-party count. The material certification is independent. The arithmetic on top of it is ours; a stated conversion applied to certified OBP content. Per-order third-party validation is possible on request; however, it comes with additional charges.
We are not claiming that we collected a specific number of bottles. We are saying the certified ocean bound plastic in your order weighs the same as that many one-litre plastic bottles. A unit people can understand and picture than a gross weight.
Where we have further to go
Our products are polyester throughout - fabric, lining, thread, webbing - because mixed fibre products are effectively unrecyclable. Single material construction is the design decision that keeps the door open.
The exception is hardware. Some products carry metal components. These would need separating before the textile could be recycled.
We do not operate a take-back scheme. There is no Tidal Links end-of-life or return programme today. We don't advertise our products as circular while that remains true.
